Counterfeit fashion apparel and products have been intercepted by officials, which is worth up to $133 million of fake apparel goods that is about £87.3 million in 2012 according to a report by US customs released last week.
Additionally the US customs seized $511.2 million (£321.8 million ) worth of fake handbags and wallet, counterfeit watches and jewellery worth $186.9 million (£117.7 million ) and $103.3 million (£65 million ) worth of footwear- with China name as the the number one source of imitation products, WWD reported.
" As online commerce continue to expand, we are seeing more of online criminal organisations exploiting cyberspace to further their criminal enterprise, " said Lev Kubiak, director of the Intellectual Property Right Centre. " Website are increasingly the front end or entry point for consumers, businesses and organisation to the international supply chain.
A total of 697 websites facilitating the sale of counterfeit goods were taken down over the last 12 months.
